Day 41: Appreciate your teachers! Whether it’s an apple, a gift card or just a “thank you for all that you do!”, be sure to take the time today or tomorrow to thank teachers for making our Gig Harbor community a better place to live.
When families are looking for a place to call home, they consider the community. A large part of the community is the school district. The key to a good school district: Strong, active community members (parents, teachers and students) that recognize the importance of a good education and support that effort 100%. “It takes a village.”
Gig Harbor’s School district, The Peninsula School district, performs consistently above the state average on standardized test including the infamous WASL and SAT.
This is a great website: Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction . Here is a link to compare schools within districts or outside districts. It is just one tool and as we know, test scores are just one piece of the puzzle. So, they also offer up other valuable statistics.
The Peninsula School District is comprised of fifteen schools and a total of 9,222 students. Geographically, it covers a 120 square-mile area on two peninsulas. The Peninsula School District is considered one of the strongest and most innovative districts in the State of Washington.
- There are 64 National Board Certified teachers in the district (with 17 currently going through the process).
- Our students have performed consistently above the state averages on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) in reading, writing and mathematics at all grade levels.
- Our SAT scores in reading and mathematics are consistently higher than national averages.
- 73% of our teachers have a master’s degree or higher. We currently have eight teachers/PEA members who hold doctorate degrees.
