Day 102 of 365: Camp Seymour (Things to Do in Gig Harbor)

Located in Gig Harbor, Camp Seymour is a branch of the YMCA Pierce and Kitsap counties. Founded in 1903, the camp has provided over a century of childhood memories, christian values and priceless education. With 160 wooded acres, camp residents can enjoy archery, swimming, polar bear swims  in the Puget Sound ( Glen Cove ), marine education and exploration, arts and crafts, obstacle/team building courses and so much more!
I had the privilege of experiencing Camp Seymour as a 6th grader in the Tacoma School District. Back then (in the olden days :), camp was part of 6th grade. I still recall the ridiculous amount of fun, the life lessons and the character building exercises. It truly was exactly what they profess it to be … life-changing/magical. As a teacher for 10 years, I often wished there was some way to replicate the experience in the classroom, but you can’t. Then, like so many other valuable programs, the district cut 5th/6th grade camp altogether. It saddens me today, to think that so many 6th or 5th graders don’t get to experience what I experience.
If you ever get the chance, as a kid, parent or grandparent, explore what Camp Seymour has to offer; rekindle that inner kid 🙂 With a wide variety of camps and programs, there is something for everyone:
