If you’ve read my blog before, you know that I am always advocating the Gig Harbor community. Sure, I write about fun stuff to do, palatable places to eat, and the local entertainment, but above all else this blog and Facebook page are all about … community.
My blog mission statement reads “The Gig Harbor community provides a better way of life.” Why? Well, there is no short answer, but I’ve set out to explore the 365 reasons. In part, it’s Gig Harbor’s physical setting and beauty, it’s steeped history as a fishing village, but mostly it’s the people and what they are willing to invest into their community. It’s no secret … You get what you give. What you put into things is what you get out of them.
Community is defined as:
a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural & historical heritage.
The people of Gig Harbor understand and support the importance of family, the arts and education. It’s the combination of all the support and SHARED values that make it a special community.
So, it is with this understanding that I began my adventures in Gig Harbor. And it is with this understanding that I invite you to explore what Rotary Club of Gig Harbor is all about. Their motto: “Service Above Self “. The mission of Rotary International is “to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community.”
Watch “This is Rotary” video to learn more about Rotary International and how you can get involved and make a difference …
I encourage you to at least visit a Rotary club meeting. There are three chapters of Rotary in Gig Harbor: Midday Gig Harbor Rotary which meets Tuesdays at noon (mid-day believe it or not 🙂 at Anthony’s Homeport, Morning Gig Harbor Rotary which meets Fridays at 7 am at the Cottesmore Care Center and finally the Rotary Club of Gig Harbor North Tuesdays beginning at 5 pm at St. Anthony’s Hospital in the Smalling Family Education Center.
With all three chapters at different times and days, hopefully one of them works. For more information on any of these or to speak with someone about visiting, click on any of the above links to get connected with a Rotarian. Join Rotarians in making Gig Harbor and the world a better place, a better community.
